The United States is the holder of the greatest form of public administration ever created. America is a great country, not because of its wealth and technology, but because of a God-inspired framework of government that had never existed since the dawn of time. But great governments and civiliza-tions only survive a time and to the degree that their citizens retain the vision and purpose for which the founders and succeeding generations of leaders and inhabitants hold fast to the principles of moral character and freedom that were first established and formed the foundation for such greatness.

Statesmen, my dear Sir, may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone, which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue; and if this cannot be inspired into our people in a greater measure than they have it now, they may change their rulers and the forms of government, but they will not obtain a lasting liberty.
